Ring! Ring!

Dear Ginny,

Just in case you forgot some of the wonderful techniques we showed you to program and expand the functionality of your modern communications device, remember you do have a back-up. You can return to something a bit more familiar. A slightly older model. A machine that a good many people with those fancy-shmancy knick-knacks would have a hard time identifying. There may even be some people out there that don’t even know how to use it. It took a few more moments to dial in a number; there was no speed dial. It didn’t have a memory and the address book was kept beside it, not in it. It didn’t flip open because it hung on a wall or sat on a desk. It was a bit heavier than the modern versions but the sound quality was just as good. And its connection didn’t mysteriously fade away in the middle of a conversation for absolutely no reason what-so-ever. When people used it, they were not standing in the vegetable aisle of the supermarket asking if the Boston lettuce was what they were suppose to buy. Meaningful thoughts were passed back and forth more often. Ah well, that’s why they must call it progress! Thanks for the great weekend. Lots of love, Aaron & Steve
